Casualties

In December 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Turkey, which resulted in one civilian injury. Eight armed actors were also injured.

On 16 December 2022, eight police officers and one civilian were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Diyarbakir.

Casualties

In November 2022, there were three recorded incidents of explosive weapon use in Turkey, which resulted in 100 civilian casualties, of whom nine were killed and 91 injured. An additional eight armed-actor casualties were also recorded, all of whom were injured.

In one high casualty incident on 13November 2022, six civilians were killed and 81 were injured when an IED detonated on a busy shopping street near Taksim Square in Istanbul.

In September 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Turkey, which resulted in four civilian injuries. Civilians accounted for 50% of all eight casualties, as four armed-actor casualties were also recorded, three of whom were killed and one injured. 

On 26 September 2022, one police officer was killed and one injured, and four civilians were injured, in a PKK firearm and suicide IED attack near a police station in Mezitli, Mersin. The two female PKK militants also died.

In August 2022, there were no recorded incidents of explosive weapon use which resulted in civilian casualties in Turkey. Five armed-actor casualties were reported, two of whom were killed and three injured. 

On 16 August 2022, two Turkish soldiers were killed and three injured in a rocket attack, likely by Syrian Defense Forces (SDF), on a Turkish checkpoint in Sanliurfa province, on the Syrian border.

On 12 May 2022, one civilian and four soldiers were injured in an alleged Kurdish rocket attack in Karkamis.

On 20 April 2022, one prison guard was killed in an IED explosion on a bus, in Bursa.

In February 2022, there were no recorded civilian casualties of explosive weapon use in Turkey. There was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use on 2 February 2022, when a Turkish soldier was killed by a Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) artillery shell fired into Turkish territory in Sirnak, southeast Turkey.

Casualties

In January 2022, there were no recorded civilian casualties of explosive weapon use in Turkey. There was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use on 8 January 2022, when three Turkish armed-actors were killed by an IED blast in Akcakale, Sanliurfa. The incident was perpetrated by non-state actors, but group-affiliation was unknown.
