Casualties

In October 2022, there were no recorded incidents of explosive weapon use in Sudan which resulted in civilian casualties. There were two armed-actor casualties, both of whom were injured, in Sudan in October.  

On 18 October 2022, two paramilitary Rapid Support Forces members were injured by mortar shelling in Lagawa, West Kordofan.

June 2022

Casualties

In June 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Sudan, which resulted in six civilians injuries, all of whom were children. There were no armed actor casualties in Sudan in June.  

On 30 June 2022, six children were injured in an unexploded ordnance blast when they were playing with the explosive in the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons, north of Darfur.

Casualties

In May 2022, there were no incidents of explosive weapon use that resulted in civilian casualties in Sudan. There was one incident of explosive weapon use recorded which resulted in three armed-actor casualties, all of whom were injured. 

On 21 May 2022, two militants and one soldier were injured in a grenade attack by unknown non-state actors in Darfur.

March 2022

Casualties

In March 2022, there was one incident of explosive weapon use recorded in Sudan that resulted in 30 civilian casualties. There were no recorded armed actor casualties in Sudan in March 2022. 

On 13 March 2022, five civilians were killed and 25 injured when a grenade was detonated at a social gathering in Um Dafug, South Darfur.

July 2021

There were two incidents of explosive weapon use in Sudan in July 2021, together causing 32 civilian casualties, 21 of whom were killed and 11 injured. There were no armed-actor casualties in July. The worst of the two incidents of explosive weapon use took place on 19 July in North Darfur, when artillery fire from an unknown perpetrator struck the Sortony camp for displaced people in Kabkabiya, killing 17 and injuring 9 civilians. 14 of the fatalities were reportedly women and 7 were children. The other incident of explosive weapon use occurred on 10 July in Port Sudan, when an IED killed 4 civilian fatalities and injured 2 others. Aid access

Around 18 July 2021 in Sortony IDP camp, North Darfur state, the camp was attacked with artillery shelling fired by unidentified perpetrators. At least 17 people were killed, including five children and seven women, and others injured. Several houses were also destroyed. Source: Radio Dabanga.
