Casualties

In October 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Niger, which resulted in three civilian casualties. Two women were killed and one child was injured. There were no armed-actor casualties in Niger in October. 

On 16 October 2022, two women were killed and one child injured in a roadside bomb explosion as they were passing with donkeys near Bosso, Diffa.

Casualties

In June 2022, there were no recorded incidents of explosive weapon use which resulted in civilian casualties. There was one incident which resulted in 40 armed-actor casualties, all of whom were killed. 

On 16 June 2022, 40 militants were killed in a drone strike in Tillaberi by French and Niger forces. The incident occured on a road in Tillaberi region.

In May 2022, there were no civilian casualties from the use of explosive weapons in Niger. There was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Niger which resulted in seven armed-actor casualties, all of whom were injured. 

On 24 May 2022, seven Niger soldiers were injured in an IED attack by Boko Haram while on their vehicle during a military operation in the Lake Chad basin.

Casualties

In March 2022, there were no civilian casualties of explosive weapon use in Niger. There were two recorded incidents of explosive weapon use which resulted in 158 armed-actor casualties, 155 of whom were killed and three injured. 

On 2 March 2022, 150 militants were reportedly killed in a Nigerian state airstrike in North-central Niger. On 4 March 2022, five Niger state soldiers were killed and three injured in the explosion of an improvised explosive device in Torodi, Southwest Niger.

Casualties

In February 2022, there were three incidents of explosive weapon use recorded in Niger, one of which caused 28 civilian casualties, 12 of whom were killed and 16 injured. There were 11 recorded armed-actors casualties, nine of whom were killed and two injured.

On 20 February 2022, a Nigerian military airstrike on a village in Nachade, Maradi, killed 12 civilians and injured 28 others. Children were reportedly among the casualties. The strike was reportedly targeting armed groups.

Casualties

In December 2021, there were no recorded civilian casualties of explosive weapon use in Niger. There was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in which one armed-actor was killed. On 20 December 2021, the French military carried out an airstrike that killed an Islamic State militant who is believed to have been involved in the murder of six French humanitarian workers in Niger in August 2020. The airstrike took place in the Tillaberi region.
