In September 2022, there were no recorded incidents of explosive weapon use in Colombia which resulted in civilian casualties. Seven armed-actor casualties were recorded in Colombia, all of whom were killed. 

On 02 September 2022, seven police officers were killed in a landmine and firearm ambush on their vehicle in San Luis, Huila.

Casualties

In June 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia which resulted in six civilian casualties, four of whom were killed and two injured. At least two women and one child were among the civilian casualties. There were no recorded armed-actor casualties in Colombia in June. 

On 10 June 2022, four civilians were killed and two injured in an IED explosion targeting a police patrol in Caqueta. The attack has been attributed to FARC.

In May 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia which resulted in the injury of one armed actor. There were no recorded civilian casualties. 

On 2 May 2022, one security guard was injured in a car bomb explosion outside a public building in Cauca. Though the perpetrator of the attack is unknown, it is presumed the bomb was placed by non-state actors.

Casualties

In April 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia, which resulted in 11 armed-actor casualties, six of whom were killed and five injured. There were no recorded civilian casualties. 

On 21 April, six Colombian soldiers were killed and five injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Antioquia. Though the perpetrator of the attack is unknown, it is presumed the bomb was placed by non-state actors.

In March 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia, which resulted in at least 33 civilian casualties, two of whom were killed (both children) and 31 injured. There were no recorded armed-actor casualties. 


On 26 March 2022, two children were killed and at least 31 other civilians injured when an improvised explosive device was reportedly detonated by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in the Arborizadora Alta neighbourhood of Bogota.

February 2022

In February 2022 there were two recorded incidents of explosive weapon use in Colombia, which resulted in seven civilian casualties, one of whom was killed and six injured. There were three recorded armed-actor casualties, one of whom was killed and two injured. 


On 9 February 2022, a car bomb detonated by unknown non-state actors at an armed base killed one civilian and injured three others in Granada, Meta. One armed-actor was also killed in the attack and two injured. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Three days earlier, three civilians were injured when a car bomb exploded near a police station in Padilla, Cauca.

Casualties

In January 2022 there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia, which resulted in five civilian casualties, all of whom were injured. One armed-actor was also killed. On 20 January 2022, a car bomb detonated by unknown non-state actors outside a government building killed one security guard and injured five civilians in Saravena, Arauca, eastern Colombia.

December 2021

Casualties

In December 2021, there were no recorded civilian casualties of explosive weapon use in Colombia. There were two recorded casualty-causing incidents on 14 December 2021, in which three armed actors were killed, including two police officers. Both incidents took place at the airport in Cucuta, Norte de Santander. The first blast occurred early in the morning when a suicide bomber climbed a fence next to the airport runway and died instantly in an explosion. The second incident took place an hour later when two police officers inspecting an abandoned bag were killed when the bag exploded.

In November 2021, there was one incident of explosive weapon use recorded in Colombia, which caused two civilian casualties and six armed-actor casualties. 

On 3 November 2021, an IED, possibly placed in a vehicle, was detonated by a non-state actor outside a police recruitment centre in Paz de Ariporo, Casanare. The attack killed one civilian and injured another, and also killed three soldiers and injured three others.

In September 2021, there were two incidents of explosive weapon use in Colombia, one of which caused four civilian fatalities, including one 13 year old girl. On 18 September, an airstrike conducted by Colombian armed forces targeting armed groups in Choco killed four civilians and eight members of Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN).

In August 2021 there was one incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia, which caused 13 civilian casualties. On 30 August, 13 people were injured when an IED was detonated outside a police station in Cucuta, Norte Santander, near Colombia’s border with Venezuela .The last recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Colombia took place in June 2021, also in Cucuta and targeting security forces.
