Casualties

In October 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Cameroon which resulted in one civilian death. Two armed actors were also killed. 

On 14 October 2022, two Cameroonian soldiers and one civilian sailor were killed in a suspected Black Marine (Biafra Nations League affiliates) IED attack on a boat carrying oil equipment in Abana, Bakassi Peninsula.

August 2022

Casualties

In August 2022, there were two recorded incidents of explosive weapon use in Cameroon which resulted in seven civilian casualties, one of whom was killed and six injured. At least four of the civilian casualties were reportedly women. Civilians accounted for 78% of all nine recorded casualties, as two armed actors were also killed. 

The highest casualty incident occurred on 04 August 2022, when six civilians, four of whom were women, were injured in an IED explosion at Douala Central Market, Littoral region. The package containing the IED was left in the midst of the market by an unknown actor on a motorbike.

In July 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Cameroon which resulted in one civilian being injured. There were no recorded armed-actor casualties in Cameroon in July. 

On 12 July 2022, one civilian was injured in an IED explosion by unknown perpetrators at Mokolo Market, Yaounde.

March 2022

Casualties

In March 2022, there was one recorded incident of explosive weapon use in Cameroon, which resulted in seven civilian casualties, all of whom were killed. There were no recorded armed-actor casualties. 

On 2 March 2022, seven civilians were killed, including two senior government officials and a mayor, when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Bekora, Ekondo Titi.

February 2022

Casualties

In February 2022 there were two recorded incidents of explosive weapon use in Cameroon, which resulted in four civilian casualties, two of whom were killed and two injured. All casualties were children. There were no recorded armed-actor casualties. 

On 4 February 2022, two children were killed when they stepped on an IED in their village in Sagme, Chari, in the Far North region of Cameroon. The following day, two children were injured by a grenade explosion on a farm in Homeka, Mayo-Sava, also in the Far North region.

November 2021

Casualties

In November 2021, there were two recorded incidents of explosive weapon use that caused 15 civilian casualties in Cameroon (reportedly including 11 women and three children). Of these, four were killed and 11 injured. 

All civilian casualties occurred in populated areas. Both incidents took place at schools, were perpetrated by non-State actors of unknown affiliation, and involved the use of IEDs. Both incidents of explosive weapon use were located in the southwest region.

The highest casualty incident took place on 10 November 2021, when 11 students were injured by the detonation of an IED at a university in Buea, in the southwest region of Cameroon. The second incident took place on 25 November 2021, when four people were killed (including three students and one teacher) when an IED was detonated at a school in Ekondo Titi.

Education

On 10 November 2021, in the Molyko area of the city of Buea in Cameroon, an explosive device went off at the University of Buea campus, injuring 13 students.

On 15 November 2021, in the Etokoss-Simbock area of Yaounde in Cameroon, an explosion damaged the girls dormitory and part of the administrative block of the Light World Mission College.

Casualties

There was one incident of explosive weapon use in Cameroon in September 2021, resulting in at least 10 armed-actor fatalities. There were no confirmed civilian casualties recorded in Cameroon in September, though some reports refer to an unspecified number of civilians injured in an attack on 16 September. On 16 September, at least 10 soldiers were killed when their convoy came under attack by reported seperatist fighters using IEDs and rocket launchers, in Bamessing, Northwest Cameroon.
